Tibetan bouddhism in Kalmaykia
The Republic of Kalmykia has Buddhism a official religion. It is the only republic of Europe, Buddhist, - and of Mongolian language! On the other hand of Federation of Russia, Kalmykia is not the only one to have Buddhism like traditional religion: there are also Bouriatie and Touva. On the whole, the Buddhist community in Russia would lie between 1.5 and 2 million.
It is about lamaïque Buddhism of tradition, coming from Tibet and Mongolia, concerning the school “Gelugpa”, whose chief carries since the 16th century the title of Dalai Lama.
Repressed hard under Stalin, Buddhism kalmouke profited from the Gorbatchevian perestroika and in 1991, Dalai Lama went in Elista, against the will of the Chinese authorities.
Kalmouks are the descendants of several Oïrotes tribes which emigrated in Europe during the first part of the 17th century.
As Buddhist Tibetans, Kalmouks regard his Holiness Dalaï Lama as their spiritual leader.
The dalaï-Sajin (the supreme LAMA) of Kalmouks is Erdne Ombadykow, a kalmouk born in Philadelphia and which was high starting from the seven years age like a buddhist monk in a monastery Tibetan in India. This last was recognized by Dalaï Lama like the reincarnation of the Buddhist saint Telo Rinpoche. Erdne Ombadykow lives between Colorado and Kalmoukie.

La république de Kalmoukie a le bouddhisme comme religion officielle. C'est la seule république d'Europe, bouddhiste, - et de langue mongole ! Par contre en Fédération de Russie, la Kalmoukie n'est pas la seule à avoir le bouddhisme comme religion traditionnelle : il y a aussi la Bouriatie et la Touva. Au total, la communauté bouddhiste en Russie serait comprise entre 1,5 et 2 millions.
Il s'agit d'un bouddhisme de tradition lamaïque, venant du Tibet et de la Mongolie, relevant de l'école "Gelugpa", dont le chef porte depuis le 16e siècle le titre de Dalaï-Lama.
Réprimé durement sous Staline, le bouddhisme kalmouke bénéficia de la perestroika gorbatchevienne et en 1991, le Dalai Lama se rendit à Elista, au grand dam des autorités chinoises.
Les Kalmouks sont les descendants de plusieurs tribus Oïrotes qui ont émigré en Europe durant la première partie du 17ème siècle.
En tant que bouddhistes tibétains, les Kalmouks considèrent sa Sainteté le Dalaï Lama comme leur chef spirituel.
